My Story
My name is Rafael. I was raised in a third-generation textile family. I grew up inside a textile factory, surrounded by fabric rolls, sewing machines, cutting tables, printing equipment, and suppliers coming in from all over the world. That’s where I learned that fashion doesn’t start with a pretty idea, it starts with daily work, discipline, and respect for the craft.
Over time, something began to pull me in more strongly: creating. Not just producing, but designing. I worked through every area of the factory, cutting, production, sales, until my parents gave me the opportunity to develop my own models. I was involved in everything from fabric development to working alongside patternmakers and designers, learning how an idea becomes a real, wearable garment with identity.
Life, however, wasn’t linear. Deep losses came. My parents passed away, and everything changed. These were unexpected blows that forced me to make difficult decisions and completely rethink my path. In that process, I learned that giving up was not an option.
With a stronger mindset and a clearer vision, Contrario was born. Not just as a brand, but as an act of resistance. A way to honor my parents’ legacy and prove that the trust they always had in me was not misplaced. My father used to say to my mother, “Rafael is crazy, but whatever he sets his mind to, he achieves.” Contrario is proof of that.
Contrario translates that energy into pieces designed for real life: graphics with attitude, symbols that break from the conventional, and an aesthetic that blends the dark with the playful. It sits at the intersection of the alternative and the everyday, where personal identity is worn with comfort, character, and confidence.
These are versatile designs you can wear your own way, with jeans, sweats, or whatever the day calls for, carrying a sense of strength, confidence, and authenticity. Contrario is for those who don’t stand out by accident, but by choice.
